Sensitization Visit on GEEP and NAWEF by Sen. Aisha J. Alhassan (Honourable Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Republic of Nigeria) to Oyo State

The program started at 12:10pm with recitation of the National Anthem and Oyo State Anthem followed by the opening prayer.

Introduction of the High Table and Others:

 Honourable Commissioner For Women Affairs - Mrs Atinuke Osunkoya
 Otun Olubadan representing The Olubadan of Ibadan land-High chief Lekan Balogun
 Eleruwa of Eruwa - Oba Samuel Adegbola
 Opetu of Ijeru Oba Oyediran Oladapo
 CAN Chairman, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu
 All Permanent Secretaries
 Representatives of Agricmedia Women Group
 And other dignitaries

The welcome address was delivered by the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Atinuke Osunkoya followed by the Executive Governor’s remark by The Deputy Governor, Dr. Otunba Alake Adeyemo.

The citation of Sen. Aisha J. Alhasaan was read and then she came up for sensitization talk which she started by observing all existing protocols.

Aims of the Social Investment Program
i. To interact more closely with women and advocate more closely with rulers and religious leaders on how to mobilize and empower and protect women and girls in our society.
ii. To cater for the welfare and wellbeing of all women, girls, the aged and people with disabilities which constitute about 70% of Nigeria's population

The program (Social Investment Program) in summary is divided into 2 sections:

a) GEEP (for male and female)
b) NAWEF(for females only)

Meaning of GEEP and NAWEF?
GEEP: Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme
NAWF: National Women Empowerment Fund

Challenges faced by rural women and farmers
*Lack of land
*Lack of house
*Lack of certificate of ownership

- A Micro-Credit scheme ranging from (#10,000 to #100,000): this is to be increased gradually
- Loan with soft conditions i.e interest-free, no security, no collateral etc.

5% of the overall loan to be tagged "Administrative Fee" which is expected to serve as transportation/logistic cost for the collection agents ( to and from the customers place while collecting the loans repayment to the bank)
-Payment period of six (6) months. Loan re-payment to be done weekly.
-Special programme/condition for those (women) not into daily earning business e.g crop farmers, poultry farmers, fish farmers etc

Eligibility To Access The Loan
- Give correct information.
- Must belong to a group, so as to handhold each other (belonging to a group is the only security to the loan)
- Use of personal/individual accounts
- The group must do cooperative registration to access the loan
- You can apply at any state with eligibility opened to all Nigerian women

Details of how to process the loan is to be provided in due course.
