IITA, corporate farmers to empower youths in agribusiness

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and the Corporate Farmers International Limited have formed a partnership to encourage youths to take interest in agribusiness.

This, according to them, is to be done through a TV show, tagged ‘Corporate Farmers Reality TV Show,’ which would be broadcast in the second quarter of the year.

The Head of Communication and Strategy, CFIL, Boason Omofaye, said the agribusiness and agro-tainment project would take place in IITA.

He said twenty contestants would be selected through an audition from the six geo-political zones of the country and compete in various agricultural enterprises for a period of six weeks in a farm house.

At the end of the show, one participant will be selected as “the Corporate Farmer who will be Nigeria’s first Agriculture Ambassador that has gone through training and passed the eviction process.”

Omofaye explained that the contestant must be a graduate between the ages of 18 and 35, and not necessarily one with prior knowledge in agriculture.

The winner will take home a sum of N5m, while others will have the opportunity to start a career in agriculture through the experience garnered from the show.
